Rome is one of the most beautiful and historically interesting cities in the world and is therefore a perfect holiday destination for the whole family. The city offers something for everyone, be it shopping opportunities, stunning parks or sumptuous cuisine. Here is some advice for anyone planning on taking the family to Rome, and some tips of saving money.
Italy is always popular during tourist seasons, due to the sights, sounds and sun. As such, it is important to decide when to go to make sure you are not going during 'peak time', so as to avoid the crowds and the heat
waves that make the city intolerable. As such, August should be avoid to the extreme heat and large crowds and the fact that this is when most Italians opt to go on holiday. Instead, try April, May and October for your travels, as airfares are also cheaper.
Depending on what you and your family wish to do in Italy, it can greatly influence where you stay in the city. If you are going with the family, you may wish to keep costs down so you could can always opt for a cheaper hotel on the outskirts of the city as opposed to an expensive hotel in the centre. Of course, this is all dependant on your budget. Another option is to try and save costs by renting a holiday apartment to make the overall costs much cheaper.
If you are travelling with young children, Rome has a number of parks such as the Villa Borghese that offer a large number of attractions and activities for kids of all ages. Generally travelling around the city, can be quite awkward though with the city's cobbled streets playing havoc with prams and pushchairs. Public transport can also be packed, so if you are travelling with younger children, hiring a car may be the best option.
However there is one thing that Rome has that is guaranteed to keep the entire family happy – ice cream parlours.
